Happy Friday! Another summer weekend is on the horizon and our stylists at DeRiah Boutique Salon have been discussing our upcoming dining plans. Our newest place of interest? The newly open AP Bar & Kitchen in Walker’s Point. With a variety of small plates and entrees that are expected to be top notch, we can’t wait to try out what’s sure to be one of Milwaukee’s newest area hot spots. AP just opened on August 7th, so we can’t wait to try it out and hear reviews from the first customers.
Check out some info from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal… AP Bar & Kitchen — the restaurant by Crazy Water’s Peggy Magister and nephew Justin Anthony — will debut on Aug. 7 in Walker’s Point. AP, at 814 S. 2nd St., is opening in the old Fifth Ward Pub space. “The bones of the building are solid,” Anthony said, but the space was refreshed (floors refinished, shelves removed to expose more Cream City brick, stainless steel placed over the bar’s top) and redecorated, including a floor-to-ceiling graffiti-like painting at the back of the restaurant. Guests can expect craft cocktails and boutique wines at the bar. On the dinner menu will be shareable bar snacks ($8) such as fried sweetbreads with sweet and sour sauce, Thai meatballs, and fried squash blossoms. AP will have four kinds of oysters daily from the East and West coasts, shucked to order and served with light sauces or hot sauce. Among the several salads ($8) on the menu: grilled octopus with panzanella, and endive and Bibb lettuce with pancetta vinaigrette and candied hazelnuts. Small plates ($7 to $12) include burrata with olives, fried chicken with soy-ginger vinaigrette, beef cheek goulash, and scallops with grilled radicchio, roasted sunchokes and white peach gremolata. AP will have some large plates ($16 to $18) as well, including a half roast chicken with black rice pilaf and pan juices, New York strip steak with frites, green bean casserole and smoked tomato butter, and a whole roasted fish of the day (market price). Desserts ($5 to $8) include a plate of four kinds of cookies, seasonal fruit tart and goat cheese torta — cheese layered with mint pesto and fig jam. AP will open at 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and will seat guests until midnight. Reservations will be accepted, but walk-ins will be welcome, Anthony said. To contact: (414) 672-6000. A website is in the works.
