The 5-Frees
A top priority at DeRiah Boutique Salon is to put our customer’s needs first. “We have been proactive in moving toward vegan product options and what we call the 5-Frees, paraben-free, gluten-free, petroleum-free, mineral oil-free and sulfate-free products as one guiding principle of our product choices and approach to sustainable beauty and care,” founder Shelley Szypszak explains. The 5-Frees are a massive attraction to DeRiah for customers who care about the products being used on their hair.
A sustainable workplace
Every aspect of our salon design has been centered around the idea of sustainability. One way we practice sustainability is through our energy-efficient LED lighting. “I’ve only changed five bulbs throughout the entire salon in the last ten years—and none at the stations. The LED bulbs don’t throw heat, so we don’t have to power up the air conditioning as much to balance. We are saving money, being energy efficient, and reducing our waste by keeping bulbs out of the landfill”, says Szypszak. Not only is the LED lighting sustainable, but it is also beneficial to customers and stylists to see and establish the right hair color.
Recycling programs and eco-friendly packaging
At DeRiah, we designed our own local recycling program that allows us to manage hair clippings, foils, and even color waste! But that’s not the end of our sustainable journey. Not only do we utilize recycling programs, but we also use R+Co products that are made from recycled materials! Doing so minimizes our economic footprint and allows us to keep our business as sustainable as possible.
